This page describes the scenery, facilities and things of interest on and near the Gloucester to Sharpness Canal. The aim is to provide visiting boats with a source of information on things to do and see, which can be reached by foot from the canal.
I haven't covered the history of the canal to any extent, as this is more than adequately dealt with elsewhere (see links page).
The pages are designed to load fast. Graphics used are mainly small thumbnails: click on them to get the full picture.
There is also a text-only version available to download (soon). This is intended for printing as a reference for visiting boaters.

Apologies for the lack of recent updates to this site. The site is now (Feb 2007) progressively being restored!
The Saul Canal Festival web site is being continually updated: the next event is held on 4 / 5 / 6 July 2008.
The trip boat Perseverance is run by the Cotswold Canal Trust. It operates throughout the summer from the Heritage Centre and does Santa Cruises near Christmas.
Patch Bridge is due to be closed for major works from Jan 2008 for around nine weeks. The closure will involve a fixed, temporary bridge being installed adjacent to the existing bridge. As a consequence, boats will not be able to pass through Patch.
Parkend Bridge will become user-operated from November 2007. The situation with other bridges which were to be user-operated (Sandfield and Junction) is being reviewed.
The next meeting is on Thursday 4 October at 19:30. The venue is Gloucester Yacht Club, and there will be two speakers: Matthew Reynolds has appeared on the telly in "Time Team" and will be speaking on the archaeology of waterways, and David Viner is BW's heritage man.
All welcome, free entry
